SKOWHEGAN, Maine (AP) — Police in the Maine town of Skowhegan say they’ve caught a registered sex offender from California who fled that state.

Police say 29-year-old Jaime Michael Harrington was arrested Monday near a Skowhegan apartment after a short foot chase.

Harrington was convicted in California of sex offenses against a girl younger than 16.

Officials say that after his release from prison, he allegedly cut off an electronic monitoring bracelet and fled. Since August he has been listed as being in violation of sex offender registration requirements.

Skowhegan police officer Ronnie Blodgett said local authorities got a tip Monday that Harrington was living in a local apartment,

Blodgett tells the Morning Sentinel Harrington moved to Skowhegan in January.

Harrington is being held at the Somerset County Jail, pending extradition back to California.
