DEAR SUN SPOTS: L/A Arts invites your readers to its first Spring Festival on Saturday, April 9, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Auburn Riverwatch, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is open to the public, with a food and cash bar available.
This is the first of many opportunities that L/A Arts will invite the public to view and buy from artisans, authors, jewelers and florists as they showcase their all Maine-made items.
Booth space is still available at $50 per vendor for the day.
For more information, please go to www.laarts.org/SpringFest2011.htm to submit your application for booth rental or e-mail Susan Donovan at [email protected] or phone 577-5991. — Judy via e-mail
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thanks again for your help to so many people.
How come during vacation week the basketball tournaments are not on television? It seems as if the high schools should get TV time like Colby, etc. Sometimes three games are on. What about our local school? We have had them in the past.
Also, where can I get a Bible bound? Thanks again. — No Name, East Dixfield
ANSWER: Sun Spots asked the guys in Sports your question, and they said that the semi-finals and championship high school games are shown on MPBN, Channel 10. She was also told that high school sports are shown occasionally on local access cable channels. Indeed, one online posting from TimeWarner Cable advertised high school football games on Channels 9 and 12.
Sun Spots is not sure how you can improve coverage. Perhaps a letter-writing campaign might convince schedule planners that there is an audience for these games?
As for getting your Bible bound, the closest Sun Spots found is in Windham, Clayton C. Crummett, 155 Route 115, 892-9512. There are others in the Portland area, including Carlson and Turner Antiquarian Books and Bookbindery, 241 Congress St., Portland, 773-4200. There may be others of which Sun Spots is unaware.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the reader curious about the flock of white birds they saw at Sabbathday Lake (March 11), they must have been our white doves!
We are Maine White Dove Release, located at Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester, and our doves (which are actually homing pigeons) are out flying several times a week. We’ve often wondered if many people notice them!
These birds are beautiful and great fun to keep, raise and fly. We do white dove releases for weddings, funerals and other special occasions. Our doves currently fly within a 30-mile radius of home but with enough advance notice for training can fly much farther. We’re glad to hear that other people enjoy watching them fly! — Maine White Dove Release, 926-4677
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Some Goodwill stores take computer components for recycling and create jobs doing so. Check out goodwill.org and read about what they do. — No Name via e-mail
ANSWER: No Name is right. Goodwill has partnered with Dell’s Reconnect program to accept computers, monitors and related items. The usable computers are resold; other items are recycled. You can visit the new Goodwill store at 939 Turner St. in Auburn.
