100 years ago,1911

Messrs. Alfred Tanguay and Florian Ouellette, who have been in the grocery business for the past eight years, will have the grand opening of their new store on Maple Street on Saturday. They will have as handsome a store as there is in Lewiston or Auburn, with all the modern equipments. The store is fitted with a steel ceiling, electric lights and a new refrigerator plant.

50 years ago, 1961

Youth held the spotlight at the style show held Thursday evening at Jordan School auditorium by the Jordan Parent-Teacher Association. Clothes appropriate for the younger generation for all occasions dominated the showing of spring and summer styles. All came from the J. C. Penney Co.

Roselle Coury Fortier served capably as commentator, calling attention to the prevailing trends and colors of the various outfits. Bert Cote provided piano accompaniment.

25 years ago, 1986

Six hundred students from about 30 schools in the western area competed at Leavitt Area High, Tripp Junior High and Turner Elementary schools in the annual Odyssey of the Mind on Saturday.

Statewide, about 2,000 students took part in the competition. On April 5, the district winners will compete for the state championships at Lewiston High School. The final competition will be the nationals in early June in Flagstaff, Ariz.
