RUMFORD — Black Mountain enthusiasts will have one more weekend for winter activities starting Friday. A lift ticket will cost $10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., then for night skiing from 6 to 9 p.m. A jam session is planned from 6 to 9 p.m.

On Saturday and Sunday, many family-friendly races and competitions take place, starting with a children’s balloon race at 10 a.m. Saturday, a backward race at 11 a.m., a body slide competition at 1 p.m. and a torchlight skiing parade down the mountain at 8:15. Peter Koch and others who have taken part in weekly jam sessions will also perform. A tug of war is being scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, skiers will have a chance to try to beat the time down the mountain set by longtime groomer, Jeff Knight, during the Egg McMogul event that starts at 9:30 a.m. That is followed by an obstacle course race at 11 a.m., then an outdoor barbecue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A family race begins at 1 p.m. The final event, at 3 p.m., known as pond skimming, challenges skiers to try to jump over a water-filled snowbank without getting wet.

Awards will be presented to the winners of competitions at 4:15 p.m.

Jen LeDuc, ski school director, said lift ticket sales were significantly higher this year than last.

“The ski school has doubled, and we’ve seen lots of new families,” she said.

Indoor events took place last year during Family and Friends Weekend because of the lack of snow.

Although skiing ends for the season on Sunday, LeDuc said one more snowmobile hill climb takes place April 2 and 3. The Hooligans will perform  Saturday night, April 2.
