Young Marines
AUBURN — The Southern Maine Young Marines will hold a recruitment/parent informational meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the American Legion Post 153, 71 Main St.
The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, age 8 through high school. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral and physical development. The program focuses on character building, leadership and promotes a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

Race registration
LEWISTON — Registration for L-A DU is now open, with special pricing until May 31. The second annual duathlon to benefit Museum L-A will take place Sunday, June 26, at Simard-Payne Park.
The 2.6-mile run, 14-mile bike and 3-mile run will race past historic millscapes, scenic paths and the Androscoggin River.
Individuals and relay teams are encouraged to register early, as the duathlon will be capped at 500 participants. Newly added this year is a New Balance 5K Run, community walk and a kids’ obstacle course.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on March 21 were as follows.
1st: Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; 2nd: Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; 3rd/4th tie: Helen Little and Sue Kaluzynski with Marta Clements and Priscilla Rooth.

Colon cancer topic
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free presentation, “SurvivorSpeak: Colon Cancer,” featuring three colon cancer survivors and a caregiver. The presentation will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at CMMC, 12 High St., in conference rooms A, B and C.
Colon cancer survivors Neil Bement, Sue Dube and Scott Thomas and caregiver Angela Thomas will share their journeys and messages of hope and survivorship. A question-and-answer session will follow and light refreshments will be served.

Square dancing
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Adult Education Program will launch a new six-week class, “New England Traditional Square Dance,” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31.
No experience is necessary. During the six-week class, dancers will learn a series of figures that can be combined in different arrangements and set to different music for variety.
