LEWISTON — James V. MacDonald, 93, of Lewiston, died March 23, at Central Maine Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
James was born on Nov. 9, 1917, in Canada, the son of Allen and Edith MacDonald. He was raised on Prince Edward Island until he was 19 years old and then he moved to Rumford, where he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He served his country proudly for 23 years, having spent time in the Pacific Theater, rising to the rank of master sergeant. After which, he began a career in Civil Service at Camp Lejeune, N.C., retiring after 20 years. He and his wife were longtime residents of North Carolina, and moved to Maine seven years ago.
James was a member of Holy Family Church and Elks Lodge. He enjoyed playing cribbage at the Pastime Club and playing pool at the Elks and also for the City League. He volunteered at the Elks during Bingo.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret (McKenna); sons, James of Raleigh, N.C., Robert of Swansboro, N.C., and Gary MacDonald of Texas; stepson, James MacPhee of Easton, Mass.; stepdaughter, Laura MacPhee of Brunswick; grandchildren, Joshua and Erica MacDonald and Joseph MacPhee; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Lennon.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Lauranna McLellan; and his parents.
