AUBURN — L/A Senior Hockey League recently awarded its winter season championships.
Yvon’s Valvoline captured the women’s championship by defeating Violette Graphics, 3-2. Yvon’s finished first place during the regular season, while Violette Graphics finished second.
The game went back and forth for the first two periods. Goaltenders Jessica Mallory of Yvon’s and Nancy Girouard of Violette Graphics both made key saves to keep the game close and through a scoreless third period.
The three Yvon’s goals were shared among three different players with numerous different players assisting. Cameo Larrivee netted both goals for Violette Graphics unassisted.
Longchamps & Sons captured the men’s championship by defeating Gritty’s/River Rats, 8-6. Longchamps&Sons were No. 1 seed of the regular season, while the River Rats were No. 4 seed.
The game was deadlocked at 3-3 after the first period. Longchamps & Sons scored four straight goals to take a 7-3 lead after two periods of play.
River Rats scored three quick goals within four minutes late in the third period, making it 7-6. Longchamps & Sons drew a penalty with less than two minutes left in the game, and the Rats pulled their goalie for a 6-on-4 advantage.
The puck found its way out of the zone, however, and Ryan Binette of Longchamps grabbed an empty-net goal.
Binette of Longchamps and Matt Cote of River Rats netted three goals each.
Goaltenders were Guy Dostie of River Rats and Richard Thibeault of Longchamps.
