TOGUS — John G. Judd, 62, of Livermore, lovingly referred to as “Bampa” by his grandchildren, died unexpectedly early evening on Thursday, March 24, at the VA hospital.
He was born at his childhood home on Route 17 in Livermore Falls, May 30, 1948, a son of Henry and Grace (Stimans) Judd. He attended Livermore Falls schools and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during Vietnam earning various medals including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
On June 30, 1979, he married, Sherian Esty at the K.C. Hall in Jay.
John worked at K & H Tire for Les Hewett as a mechanic for 15 years and went on to work for Joe Ross Sr. at New England Furniture and Livermore Falls Shoe.
He was very involved in the local veterans organizations including his life memberships in the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 in Jay, American Legion Hall Post 40 in Winthrop, AMVETS Post 33 in Jay, Disabled American Veterans, and Military of Purple Hearts in Lewiston. John served as the commander of the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 in Jay on two separate occasions, first from 1999 to 2000 and from 2008 to present.
John enjoyed playing cards and trying his luck with slot machines which took him on trips to Bangor, Connecticut, Las Vegas and Atlantic City. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and hanging out at his garage, “Moma’s Place” in Livermore Falls. His greatest pleasure was time spent with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sherian Judd of Livermore; his children, Duane Mitchell Jr. and his wife, Jen, of Livermore Falls, Sherry Mitchell Haley and her husband, Joshua, of Rangeley, Tony Tibbetts and his wife, Jill, of Chesterville, Jerry “JJ” Leach and his wife, Janet, of Alaska, and Lucinda Pennington and her husband, Steve, of Missouri; grandchildren, Douglass, Michael and Natasha Haley, Jacob and Jordyn Mitchell, Joshua Swett, Johnathan and Ashley Tibbetts, Ashley, Bobby, Christina, Devon and Evelyn Leach, Grace, Faith, Hope and Charity Pennington; great-grandchildren, Abby, Jake, Payton and Alyssa; siblings, Bennie Judd and his fiance, Alicia, of Sabattus, Douglass Judd and his fiance, Linda, of Livermore, Paula Judd of North Carolina, and Warren Dorey and his wife, Brenda, of Jay; sister-in-law, Grace Judd of Livermore Falls; brother-in-law, Bobby Robbins; special friend, Dr. Leslie Harding, who the family cannot thank enough for his support; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Howard Stimans, Robert Brown, Henry Judd, Betty Ann Robbins, Beverly Brice and Roberta Larrabbee; and good friend, Les Hewett.
