LEWISTON — Robert A. St.Hilaire Jr., 83, a longtime resident of Auburn, died Thursday, March 24, at Central Maine Medical Center, with his family by his side.
He was born in Lewiston, Nov. 26, 1927, a son of the late Robert A. and Laura (Daniels) St.Hilaire Sr. He was educated in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1946. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Japan, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1947. Bob married the love of his life, Florence Comeau on Feb. 14, 1950. She predeceased him in October 2007.
Bob became involved in his father’s roofing business at a very early age and began working with him after returning home from Japan. He eventually and proudly owned and operated the Robert A. St.Hilaire Jr. Roofing Co. with his sons until his retirement, having repaired many of Maine’s churches and steeples.
He was a member of St. Louis Church in Auburn, served on the board of directors of Mechanics Savings Bank for 30 years as well as the Auburn Water District for nearly 20 years.
Enjoying outdoor activities was one of his passions. Walking, fishing and hunting, swimming, skiing, ice skating and ice fishing were his favorite things to do with family and friends.
Bob’s favorite spot was Thompson Lake, where most of the family gatherings were held. His quick wit and sense of humor were always appreciated by everyone.
Dad and Pepere will be remembered for his friendly smile, his love and devotion to his family as well as making them his priority during his lifetime.
He is survived by his children, Cynthia, Robbie and his wife, Gloria, Danny, and Lisa and her husband, Walter Crites, all of Auburn; his grandchildren, Jessica, Shannon, Nikki, Amy, Robby, Kara and Katie; as well as great-grandchildren, Gage, Zion, Ariana, Madeline, Amelia, Ema, Clara and Annabelle.
He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Cynthia Marie; and siblings, Jane Gagnon, Cecile Vallerand and Norm St.Hilaire.
