AUBURN — On Thursday, March 31, author Kerck Kelsey will visit the Auburn Public Library to discuss his book, “Remarkable Americans: The Washburn Family.”

The book details how the 10 Washburn children, born into rural poverty on a simple 19th-century family farm in Livermore Falls, grew into one of the most accomplished family in American history. Family members include four members of Congress, two state governors, two ambassadors and two founders of what would later become General Mills.

Kelsey, a descendant of the Washburn family, received his master’s degree in history from Harvard University at age 70, after a career in banking and publishing. His book, which grew out of his thesis work, was published by Tilbury House in 2008.

The program, beginning at noon, is free and will take place in the Androscoggin Community Room. Attendees are welcome to bring a bagged lunch or to order out at The Library Cafe; the library will supply drinks and dessert. The library is at 49 Spring St.
