Becky Armstrong of South Paris prunes her plant during the “How To of Topiary” workshop at Lewiston High School on Saturday. Thirty-seven classes ranging from rain gardens to beekeeping were offered during the University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s 18th annual Maine Garden Day. Topiary is the practice of clipping plants to develop a defined shape. “Topiary is very formal, structured, high-end, and I like to take it and make it Dr. Seuss,” said Tony Elliott, owner of Snug Harbor Farm and teacher of the workshop. Maine Garden Day attracted 310 enthusiasts, said Barbara Murphy, a planning committee member from West Paris.
