RUMFORD — Two men face robbery charges after an altercation Friday night in which a man’s cellphone was stolen.
Charles Lee Gannon Jr., 18, and Alex H. Sprague, 18, both of Rumford, were charged with robbery and criminal mischief Friday night after an altercation with a 45-year-old man at a Congress Street residence.
According to Sgt. James Bernard of the Rumford Police Department, the alleged victim reported the crime at about 8:30 p.m. Friday. Bernard said the department doesn’t report victims’ names.
Bernard said the alleged victim knew Sprague and Gannon and was able to identify them to police.
Gannon was arrested later that night by Rumford police Officer Joseph Sage and was booked at Oxford County jail about 11 p.m. Sprague was arrested and booked at about 11:30 p.m. Friday by Rumford officer Brad Gallant.
Because the phone was taken by force, both were charged with Class B robbery.
Gannon had previously been charged with burglary for allegedly stealing items from cars with another man in Mexico on Dec. 26. On Jan. 30, he was charged with breaking into Oxford Lanes bowling alley with two others and stealing $184 in cash.
On March 5, Gannon was charged with felony burglary and theft for allegedly breaking into a relative’s home and stealing a video game console.
Sprague’s bail was set at $600 cash. Gannon was also charged with violation of bail conditions and was ineligible for bail.
