LEWISTON — The Lewiston CareerCenter, at 5 Mollison Way, will offer the following workshops and services in April for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills to increase employability.

All CareerCenter services are free of charge. Workshops will be held at Central Maine Community College as well as the Auburn Public Library and the CareerCenter.

Career option offerings:

— A Career Decision Making Workshop is in two parts. Day 1: Tools to help make career decisions. Day 2: Using the information from Day 1 to make career plans. Registration is required. Workshop is offered April 5 and 8, and April 26 and 29; 9 a.m.-noon.

— Industry Information Tuesday: Learn about the Construction Industry. A panel of experts followed by a group discussion will allow participants the opportunity to learn and ask questions about jobs, training and skills needed. Registration is required. April 12, 9-11 a.m.

— Preparing for a Job Fair Workshop will help participants enhance a job fair experience. Learn what employers are looking for and how to best present your knowledge, skills and abilities to an employer. April 1 at 9 a.m. and April 5 at 12:30 p.m. Held at Central Maine Community College, Jalbert Hall, Room 15.

— Gateway to Employment Workshop gives an overview of basic information on resumes, interviews and job search skills, as well as CareerCenter and community services that are available to help with job searches. Registration is required. Every Thursday, 1-4 p.m.

— Job Search Tips for People with a Criminal History. For those with a criminal background who are having trouble finding work. Includes tips on how to respond to those hard-to-answer questions. Registration is required. April 15, 9-10 a.m.

— Job Search Skills Workshop, facilitated by a CareerCenter staff person. Offered at the Auburn Public Library and Central Maine Community College. This workshop will teach how to conduct an effective job search. Learn how employers advertise and hire, and job-search methods that will lead to success. Call the Auburn Public Library at 333-6640 to register (required). April 12 at the APL, 2-4 p.m.; April 14 at CMCC, Jalbert Hall, Room 15, 2-4 p.m.

— Resume Basics and Interview Skills: Explore the basics of resumes and applications and learn how to make a resume and interview stand out in a positive way. Learn to market yourself in a way that directly matches employer needs. Tough interview questions will be discussed so that participants can answer them with confidence. Registration is required. At the CareerCenter, April 14 or 28, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. At the Auburn Public Library, April 28 from 2-4 p.m. Call 333-6640 to register. At CMCC, April 28 from 9-11 a.m., Jalbert Hall, Room 15.

— Greater L-A Unemployed Professionals Group meets every Monday from 1-4 p.m. Group discussions cover professional development and job search strategies. At the CareerCenter.

Training and education resources and information

— CareerCenter Training Orientation is an overview of training programs at the CareerCenter, eligibility requirements and information on accessing services. Ask CareerCenter staff for the schedule of meetings and to register (required).

— Essentials of College Planning for Adults: The basic steps for successful college enrollment. Learn about college and trade schools, entrance requirements, readiness and transitional issues of adult students, admissions procedures and financial aid. Review a typical admissions application, request admissions materials and financial aid information from prospective colleges and complete the financial aid form. Bring last year’s income tax forms. — An adult education representative will help explore options to improve job skills and help identify adult education programs or classes that will best meet needs based on interests and career goals. April 6, 13, 20 and 27, 10:15-11 a.m. at the CareerCenter.

— Orientations for people with disabilities who are considering vocational rehabilitation services. Held the third Friday of each month. Service providers are also welcome to attend. Call Linda at 753-9057 or TTY 877-796-9833. At the CareerCenter.
