HEBRON — High tea will be served at the Greenwood Mountain Inn on May 1 to not only celebrate the royal wedding of Prince William but to raise funds for the new Historical Historical Society home on Paris Road.
“People should wear their best hat and gloves, dress appropriately for high tea as if you were coming to Buckingham Palace,” Daryel Duhaime of the Greenwood Mountain Inn and Hebron Historical Society’s fundraising committee said.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are to be married on April 29.
The Historical Society purchased a small, two-story house at 358 Paris Road last November and are conducting fundraising activities to pay the mortgage. The new building, which is expected to open next fall, will provide much needed space for the society’s archives and research.
“This is our second annual benefit. We’ll have homemade pastries and sandwiches,” Duhaime said of the event that begins at 4 p.m. at the Greenwood Mountain Inn at 168 Greenwood Mountain Road in Hebron. A $10 donation is requested.
Duhaime said they are also asking people to bring their favorite tea pots. Tea cups will be available at the event.
High tea is usually defined as a British tradition of a light meal in the late afternoon that originated in the 19th century as a workingman’s supper.
Fundraising efforts, which began late last year with a bake sale at the polls during the election in November, will continue throughout the year. According to information from the society, the campaign is to raise $50,000 over the next three years.
