PARIS — Selectmen on Monday authorized an expenditure for a new tanker truck for the Paris Fire Department and voted to accept a federal grant to pay  about 85 percent of the cost.

The truck, a 2,500-gallon International, will cost $221,760, but a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters will pay $190,000 toward it.

The remaining $31,760 will come from the town’s Fire Department Capital Improvement Account.

A tanker truck carries water to fires outside the fire hydrant district. According to the Paris Fire Department, a current tanker truck is unsafe and needs replacement.

The truck will be purchased from Greenwood Emergency Vehicles, a firm in North Attleboro, Mass.
