FARMINGTON — SAVES will host a support group for male victims and survivors of sexual assault, to be facilitated by Jim Mello, a local counselor, and Kristen Plummer, SAVES advocate, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays starting April 4.
All meetings will be held at the Holman House, 227 Main St.
Historically male victims of sexual assault are some of the least likely to come forward, so giving a safe and comfortable space for people to share and discuss issues that come with coping is important. However, community members have reached out to SAVES asking for this group so there seems to be support behind it.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. One in six males will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime.
“If I can help someone not have to go through what I went though, I made a difference. If I can help one kid, a boy or a girl, I don’t care, I made a difference. If we can only help one person, that’s the goal,” said Travis White of Livermore Falls, a key member in the formation in the men’s group.
