I applaud David Wing’s letter to the editor in defense of Oak Hill High School (March 26).

As a former principal, he knows the success stories that have come back to Oak Hill. It was at Oak Hill where students were given the tools and gained the knowledge to go out into the world and become successful.

Chad Gurney could have been one of those success stories. He was a good athlete, a good student and was bound for college. While in college, tragedy struck and fate changed his life and that of his family forever.

It is such a tragic story — one that could have affected any of the local high schools.

I, too, question the wisdom of the Sun Journal staff in linking the current tragedy to a high school that has given so much to so many in the past. It is not the first time the Sun Journal has done that, but I do hope it will be the last.
