DIXFIELD — The Police Department responded to 25 calls during the past week, including the following.

Arrests

An Arctic Cat snowmobile valued at $3,700 that was reported stolen from Welch’s Campground on March 20, was recovered. The machine was found in Rumford Center on March 22.

A 14-year-old Dixfield boy, who was released to the custody of his parents, was charged March 22 with felony theft. He is scheduled to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on June 7.

Michael Gould, 20, of Rumford was charged on March 27 with felony receiving stolen property and aggravated trafficking in drugs within a school zone. He was released from the Rumford Police Department on $800 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on May 3.

Sgt. Jeff Howe said Gould paid for the snowmobile with cash and drugs. He said three other people are being investigated in connection with the case. They will be charged with unauthorized use of stolen property. The snowmobile sustained substantial damage.

Car-deer accidents

* Philip Poirier, 28, of Livermore Falls, struck a deer on March 22 as he was traveling south on the Canton Point Road. His 2003 Honda sport utility vehicle sustained $1,500 damage. The deer was injured and had to be killed by police.

* Dawn Knight, 37, of Carthage, struck a deer at 4 a.m. March 28 as she was traveling south on Weld Street near Dirigo High School. Her 2000 Pontiac sedan sustained $1,500 damage. The deer ran off.

Downtown deer

Several residents reported deer walking in the area of Main and Third streets at about 9 a.m. March 27. Sgt. Howe said someone had put out feed for the animals. He encourages those who live in a residential area, particularly, to not feed the deer. He said the deer eventually left the downtown area on their own.
