LEWISTON — Maurice L. Fortier, 76, of Turner passed away at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilon on Wednesday, March 30, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Nov. 9, 1934, in Lewiston, the son of Willie and Simonne (Leblond) Fortier. He lived his entire life in this area.
On June 23, 1955, he married Priscilla Rainville. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and received his honorable discharge in 1963, after serving in the Reserve.
He worked 28 years for the Lisbon School Department as a custodian and was fondly remembered by many students as their school bus driver. He was a very devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, devoting countless volunteer hours in the service of his parish.
Maurice was a loyal 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, reconditioning cars, taking friends and family for rides in his “Big Lincoln.” Spending time with his family was his greatest joy, in particular going to the coast with his children and grandchildren.
Maurice is survived by his five children, Pauline Robitaille and her husband, Daniel, of Rhode Island, Diane Doustou and her husband, Richard, of Turner, Jerry Fortier and his wife, Lisa, of Conneticutt, Therese Studmire and her husband, Marcus, of Ohio, and Roland Fortier and his wife, Lori, of Sabattus; nine grandchildren, Brittany, Tyra and Tosha Studmire, Leanna Cain, Jenalee Hill, Nicole, Justin and Cody Fortier and Cassidy Stevens; four great-grandchildren, Baylee and Lucy Cain, Ashaunte and Jordin Hill; his sister, Doris Bilodeau and her husband, Robert; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.
