LEWISTON — Advocates for Children will present the “Incredible Years,” a parenting series designed to strengthen parenting skills.
“The Incredible Years – Parents of Babies (0-12 mos)” will be offered from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 7 to May 12, at Advocates for Children.
The program aims to advance the social and emotional behavior of children through a series of teaching programs supported by more than 25 years of clinically proven worldwide research.
The first session supports parents and their babies by observing and reading cues and signals; understanding babies are intelligent learners; providing physical stimulation and its importance for brain development; understanding development; and the importance of finding time for oneself.
“The Incredible Years – Parents of Toddlers (1-3 years)” supports parents and builds parenting skills by learning how child-directed play promotes positive relationships; using emotion coaching to build children’s emotional vocabulary and encourage them to express their feelings; building self-esteem through praise and encouragement and other everyday concerns.
Classes will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, May 2 to 23 and June 6 to at Advocates for Children.
“The Incredible Years – Special Topics (3-6 years)” will offer the following classes from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays: “Praise and Rewards,” April 13; “Rules, Routines, Limit Setting,” May 4; “Handling Misbehavior,” May 25; “Social Skills Date” June 8.
