The woman pedestrian who came up through Durham this week, causing consternation among the housewives in that vicinity and along the South River Road, was apprehended by the Auburn police. To some she claimed to be selling real estate to others she was going on a visit. The officers provided a night’s lodging for her and the next morning she left saying she was going to Bangor. She was an unusually large woman and carried several suit cases. On the road she made slow progress calling at farm houses and if not admitted, expressed her mind freely.

The City of Lewiston is scheduled to get a new fire truck this week.
Chief Roland G. Dumais reported last night he expects the new $22,000 pumper ordered from Ward Lafrance Co. about six months ago to be delivered on Wednesday. It will be driven here from Elmira Heights, N. Y.
The 750-gallon pumper is being financed with funds included in a municipal bond issue floated in 1960.

With the price of regular gasoline now below 70 cents a gallon in both cities, Lewiston-Auburn appears to be offering the best deal in the state at the pump, and state officials say it is because there’s a real focus in the area on competing for customers.
“We’ve heard there’s a real disparity between several markets with wholesale prices down,” said Barbara Reinertsen, of the state Office of Energy Resources in Augusta. “It seems to be a matter of when one dealer in market goes down, the rest follow.”
