AUBURN — Central Maine Community College President Scott Knapp announces the appointment of Glen Mercier as the Veterans to College coordinator.

Mercier, a resident of New Gloucester, is a recently-retired Air Force officer. During his Air Force career, he worked as an ROTC instructor at Norwich University in Vermont, as an aircraft maintenance operations officer at McChord AFB in the state of Washington, and as an aircraft maintenance inspector at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio. He earned an associate’s degree in avionics technology from the Community College of the Air Force and a bachelor’s degree in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

As the Veterans to College coordinator, Mercier is working to develop a convenient and comprehensive advising, evaluation and referral service for veterans, reservists, National Guard or active duty personnel who wish to pursue higher education in Maine. He will provide counseling about college and program options in Maine, an analysis of how their military training can apply toward credits, and how their GI or other benefits can be applied.

The funding for this position is being provided by a Congressionally-directed grant through the U.S. Department of Education. Anyone interested in learning more is encouraged to contact Mercier at 755-5253 or [email protected].
