The nuclear power plant problem in Japan should be a wake-up call to those who also produce power the same way.

When do you ever build a house with no bathroom? That is what we have done with nuclear power, as we have no safe way to dispose of the waste.

All the while we are removing dams so that the “whatever” can swim, swim, swim. We remove the dams because we are told it is too expensive to build efficient fishways. We can walk on the moon, build a space station, but cannot devise an efficient fishway.

How about efficient hydro-generators? We have turbines that are now being tested to use tidal power. Why not install them on Maine’s rivers, which run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year?

We are told that what is going on in Japan cannot happen here. Wanna buy a bridge?
