TURNER — Town Manager Eva Leavitt swore in two new selectmen at the board’s meeting Monday night.

Selectmen Ralph Caldwell and Kurt Youland had both previously served on the board.

Much of the meeting was taken up with organizational items.

Selectman Angelo Terrieri was selected as chairman and Selectman Denis Richardson was voted vice chairman. Terrieri was appointed liaison with the Solid Waste Committee; Caldwell was appointed liaison with the Road Committee; Selectman Laurence House was appointed liaison with the Fire Department and the Quimby Memorial Center; Richardson was appointed liaison with the Recreation Committee and the Leavitt Institute; and Youland was appointed as liaison with the Planning Board and the Building Committee.

Prior to his election to the board the Road Department had selected a truck offered for sale by Youland as being the best buy to meet the town’s needs. Youland did not participate in the vote to purchase the 2004 Ford F550 with 49,000 miles and equipped for plowing.

Selectmen voted to take $23,000 from the Equipment Reserve Account to purchase the truck and an additional $1,000 for sandblasting and touch-up paint for the vehicle. There was $79,000 available in the account.

Leavitt reported on preparations for the celebration of Turner’s 225th anniversary to be held on July 3 and 4. Caldwell offered use of his field for the fireworks display. Youland said he would use his helicopter to give sightseeing tours of Turner. It was agreed that some of the proceeds from the event would be set aside for the 250th anniversary.

Terrieri said that floats, marchers, bands an other participants in the parade and volunteers were needed to make the celebration a success. A committee will be formed to organize the event.

Leavitt reminded the selectmen that all elected officials were required to take the online course on the Right to Know Law so they will know what town records are public.
