BETHEL — Cathi DiCocco, local chef and frequent presenter on food topics, will hold two workshops as part of the Western Mountain Senior College “To Your Health” series.
DiCocco, who has a degree in home economics education, said her goal is to educate people about the importance of their food choices, not only for their personal health but also for the health of the community and the planet. She holds tasting workshops and educational sessions throughout the year.
DiCocco’s first workshop, “Follow the Rainbow through Healthy Food Choices,” will be presented from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Bethel Congregational Church.
She said, “Adding a splash of colorful seasonal foods to your plate makes for more than just a festive meal. A rainbow of foods creates a palette of nutrients, each with a different package of potential benefits for a healthful eating plan.”
The presentation will show how easy it is to enjoy a variety of nutritional foods that supports one’s health. She will also discuss menu planning, how to incorporate fiber into the diet and weight management.
“Tweaking Recipes to Accommodate Food Intolerances” will take place a week later, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 14, also at the Bethel Congregational Church. DiCocoa will show how to tweak recipes to accommodate special dietary concerns such as food allergies, lactose and gluten intolerances. Plant-based foods are substituted for eggs, dairy and wheat.
DiCocco will have demonstrations and samples as well as recipes and resource materials available at each workshop.
To Your Health is sponsored by WMSC as a community service with the collaboration of Bethel Family Health Center and SAD 44/Continuing Education. Admission is free. For more information, call R. Tifft 824-2053.
