DUNLAP, Tenn. — Helen B. Mooers, 85, formerly of Orono and Durham, most recently of Dunlap, Tenn., passed away in Tennessee, Saturday, April 2, after a long illness.

Mrs. Mooers was born in LaTuque, Quebec, Canada, Feb. 4, 1926, the daughter of the late Warren B. and Bernice (Bailey) Beckler. She was married to the late H. Brian Mooers Sr. on Sept. 3, 1949, in LaTuque.

Mrs. Mooers graduated from the University of Maine at Orono, with a BSRN degree in 1949, and worked in several capacities as a registered nurse, in a physician’s office in Orono, as a teacher at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Bangor and at the Orono Nursing Home, among others.

Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lisbon Falls. During the summer months, prior to her illness, she stayed at Orr’s Island and was affiliated with the Orr’s-Bailey Island Methodist Church. She was admirably skilled at many crafts and enjoyed gardening as a hobby.

Helen leaves behind her three children, H. Brian Mooers Jr. and his wife, Glennis, of Barrington, N.H., Martha M. Nevola and her husband, Charles, of Cranston, R.I., and Jennifer L. Mooers of Pikeville, Tenn.; two sisters, Caroline B. Doolittle of Littleton, Mass., and Judith Baggett of Topsham; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
