ELLSWORTH — The Pearl Starbird Scholarship Fund, established at the Maine Community Foundation in 2005, supports graduates of any Oxford County high school or the Lake Region High School in Naples who are majoring in music (preferably classical) or the visual arts (painting, drawing or sculpture) at the college level.

The scholarship honors Pearl Starbird, an accomplished artist and musician and summer resident of Waterford, who shared her passion for art as a teacher in the Boston schools.

Applications are due April 15. Guidelines and applications are available at www.mainecf.org in the For Students section or by calling 1-877-700-6800.

The Starbird Scholarship is meant to help students make the choice to pursue their passion for music or art rather than undertake a “more practical” course of study. Eligible applicants will be in good academic standing with a demonstrated interest in the arts or music.
