LEWISTON — Winnifred “Winnie” Pinard, 86, of Sabattus, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 5, at Central Maine Medical Center of renal failure, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Sabattus, Sept. 14, 1924, the daughter of Edward I. Gayton and Florence Smith Gayton. She attended schools in Sabattus and married Armand H. Pinard on Jan. 8, 1943, at Sacketts Harbor, N.Y. Mr. Pinard died in 1981. She was employed at the lower mill in Sabattus, Bath Iron Works during World War II, Worumbo Mills in Lisbon Falls, Sturtevant’s Store in Sabattus, and was an Avon Representative for many years.

She was a member of Sabattus Community Baptist Church in Sabattus until her kidney disease stopped her from attending. Her hobbies were ceramics, taught by Sadie Toothaker, and she also hand knit many special sweaters, mittens and bangle hats for the grandchildren and friends. She also loved gardening and reading, and enjoyed her computer, keeping in touch with family and friends and forwarding all emails.

She is survived by her children, Christine Ray and husband, Donald, Michael and wife, Janet, Ronald and wife, Trudy, Thomas and wife, Sandy, Barbie Cyr and husband, Patrick and David and wife, Candy, all of Sabattus; sisters, Faye Tarr, Sheila Lavallee and husband, Roger, of Lisbon Falls and Sharon Lewellyn and husband, Paul, of Laurel Hill, Fla.; brothers, John Gayton and wife, Barbara of Sabattus and Donald Gayton of Quaker Hill, Conn.; brother-in-law, Raymon Small; sisters-in-law, Christine, Monique, and Rudy Gayton and Rosie Pinard; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson on the way; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was predeceased by seven sisters; and five brothers.

We want to extend special thanks to the staff of the Lewiston Kidney Center for the love and care they gave her for the last three years, and also to the staff at Marshwood Center for their love and special care of our mother for the last year, they are very special people. Heartfelt thanks to CMMC ICU unit for their thoughtfulness and tender care in her last days. It was truly appreciated by all of us.
