LEWISTON — Michael D. Burgess Sr., 61, a resident of Leeds, died Thursday, April 7, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born July 14, 1949, the son of Maynard and Violet Smith Burgess. Mike worked until retirement in 1984, at Maine Egg Farms in Greene. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, which was sports he shared throughout with all his family members, especially with his uncles, Arland and Raymond; he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially enjoying time with all his grandchildren, especially granddaughter — daughter, Jacinta, who he raised since birth.
Papa, Dad, Uncle Mike or just plain Mike, he had a special name from everyone in his family, as his love was shown to each and every person who knew him.
Mike is survived by his wife, Pauline, whom he married July 27, 1970 in Winthrop, they have been married 40 years; a daughter, Lori Hammond and husband, Jonathan; three sons, Michael Jr. and Daniel and Andrew; grandchildren, Terra and Mike Bettis, Trista White, Dakota Hammond, Chad Bryant, Jacinta Burgess and Tiffany Burgess; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Fournier; brothers, Philip, Leon, Gerry, David and Maynard Jr.; sisters, Evelyn, Sandra, Linda, Brenda, Carmen and Faylene; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother and father; three brothers, Avon, Gordon and Bruce; a sister, Rachel Hanson; and his uncle, Raymond Burgess.
