RUMFORD — Colonial Daughters Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Farmington, presented the DAR Good Citizen Award to Megean Bourgeois at a Mountain Valley High School assembly.
Good Citizen Committee Chairwoman Deborah J. Judkins of Upton and Chapter Regent Marcia White of Rangeley presented the award. Bourgeois, daughter of Christopher Bourgeois of Rumford, received a Good Citizen pin and a certificate signed by National Society Daughters of the American Revolution President General Mary Ann T. Wright and Maine Society DAR Regent Virginia S. Spiller.
Colonial Daughters Chapter sponsors seven area schools. Each school’s faculty nominates several candidates and the person chosen must have demonstrated the qualities as defined by the National DAR Society.
Bourgeois is ranked 3 of 151 in her class. She has successfully completed nearly all of the most challenging courses that Mountain Valley has to offer. She has won awards in almost every subject area, and last year, out of approximately 50 students who took an AP exam, she was the only student to score a 5, faculty said. She is a member of the National Honor Society.
Bourgeois has shown explicit work ethics in the gymnastics field and has progressed to a level nine. At this time there is only one other gymnast in the state YMCA competition league who is higher. She helps coach younger children to become gymnasts.
Bourgeois has been active in school music, drama, tutoring, fundraising and recycling programs. She does volunteer coaching in art, music and dance and is willing to lend a hand to someone in need.
Bourgois would like to major in history and journalism in college and she would like to continue her career through journalism.
