Recently, I have traveled back to Maine twice to say goodbye to my parents and have been amazed at what happened on the procession from the funeral parlor to the cemetery. There didn’t seem to be any respect given.

Maybe it’s due to a new generation; maybe it’s due to the busy lives we all lead; or maybe people are just not sure what to do when a funeral procession passes.

For those who are not aware of procession etiquette, I have listed a few guidelines that might help the residents of Auburn and Lewiston so when their loved ones pass on, it might not happen to them.

When a driver encounters a funeral procession, please:

— Be respectful; yelling out a window or sending hand gestures are not a form of respect.

— Don’t cut in or cut off a procession.

— Don’t honk at a funeral procession.
