DIXFIELD — Selectmen learned Monday night that plans to replace the Webb River Bridge and the attached sewer force main have been delayed.

Town Manager Eugene Skibitsky said he didn’t know the reason for the delay. “They were supposed to have started by now,” he said.

The original schedule for the $4 million bridge replacement called for work to have begun last month.

Skibitsky said he was waiting for a new schedule from a contractor.

The bridge will be replaced with funds from the Maine Department of Transportation. The town is responsible for replacing the sewer main, which is attached to the existing bridge. The sewer main carries sewage from Dixfield users of the Rumford-Mexico sewage treatment plant to the plant in Mexico.

The board also received an updated schedule for installing night lights at Harlow Field. More than $80,000 has been raised for the installation that will allow night sports events.

As it stands, the 70-foot poles will arrive by mid-May. Holes will be drilled on June 10 and poles set on June 15. The town’s Code Enforcement Officer Calvin Baumier is working with volunteers on proper installation because water is believed to exist under the field.

Also on Monday:

* The board agreed to go ahead with developing a Code of Ethics for selectmen.

* Public Works Foreman David Phair said his crew had plowed 47 times during the winter season. He said overtime is within budget and more salt than expected had been used.

* The Sewer Department and the Terry Berry Co. are working on a new sewer ordinance. Once a draft has been written, it will be presented to selectmen, then voted on by residents.

* Plans are going ahead to form a safety committee that would review incidents, set safety goals and reward employees who maintain safe work practices.
