Postmaster Smart states that he has received no orders relative to closing the Lewiston post office Sundays nor instructions to discontinue Sunday service at the carriers window, and adds that the usual Sunday service will be maintained until he receives orders to the contrary.
50 years ago, 1961
Two 11-year-old Auburn boys, with adventure in their hearts, rode a raft out onto the pond at Pettengill Park early last night, but police intervened and halted the excursion.
Patrolmen Steven Mehalcik and Ellery Gray went to the park in answer to a report to police that two boys were riding ice cakes on the pond surface.
The officers arrival ended the cruise and the lads were taken to their homes by police and their parents told of the escapade.
25 years ago, 1986
A record early opening will be set this year at range Ponds State Park, if road barriers at the entrance are removed next weekend.
Park Manager John Titus said Friday that if unseasonably warm weather continues, the park’s facilities will be made available to the general public as early as April 12. Visitors will be welcome to use the area for picknicking, boating and other outdoor activities, but there will be no beach supervision.
