MEXICO — The Region 9 School of Applied Technology board Wednesday reorganized for the upcoming year, announced end-of-school-year events, and heard a report from students who recently attended vocational competitions.

Bethel resident Norman Clanton was re-elected chairman and Rumford representative Frank DiConzo was re-elected vice chairman.

Included in the events coming up is graduation for adult education students, scheduled for June 6.

Adult Education Director Nancy Allen said 14 students are qualified to graduate, so far, and several more should be by June 6.

She said she and her staff have developed a vision statement for adult and community education that will soon be written on all brochures, stationery and other materials associated with the program. That statement is, “Your path to a better future.”

Other Region 9 events include the annual open house for parents, students and other community members to visit the various vocational programs, set for 5 to 7 p.m., April 26; the annual loggers’ meet, May 12 and 13 at Welch’s Campground in Dixfield; and on May 25, the annual awards and celebration night.

Instructors Peter Barlow and Norm Jamison introduced several students who participated in the annual Career Technical Education competition in Bangor last month. One silver award and several honorable mentions were earned.

The board voted to change the night of its monthly meeting to the first Wednesday, beginning July 6. The current meeting time of 7 p.m. remains, but may be changed at the next meeting.
