MECHANIC FALLS — Richard M. George, 80, of Mechanic Falls, passed away early Monday, April 11. He left peacefully at home with family and friends nearby during his final hours.
He was born in Norway, July 8, 1930, the son of the late Giles and Helen (Downing) George. He attended Mechanic Falls High School and graduated with the Class of 1949. After four years in the Army, he worked several jobs in the area. Eventually, he was employed by Central Maine Power and retired in 1990.
He was a proud Korean War veteran and lifetime member of the American Legion Post 150 for 42 years. He enjoyed fishing and working in his garden. He was also a member of the Howling Moose Club. Dagger George enjoyed playing horseshoes.
He leaves three children, Richard M. George Jr. of Connecticut, Heidi George of Florida, and Rob George of Rhode Island; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob George, and a sister, Betty Hackett, both of Mechanic Falls.
He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas George; and a sister, Barbara Davis.
