WHISTLER, British Columbia — Carrabassett Valley Academy’s Sam Morse led his American counterparts in the slalom competition at the Whistler Cup with a third place finish.
It was a close race, with less than one second separating the top three competitors. Morse also placed fifth in the super-G and twelfth in the giant slalom.
The Whistler Cup features the top 11-to-14 year-old skiers from across the globe. Whistler Cup athletes are tracked by the NDS (National Development System) and are invited to training camps and national projects in the upcoming year in order to keep them on track toward eventually making the U.S. Ski Team.
Morse and fellow CVA racer Czari Cochrane were two of eighteen skiers representing The United States. Both Morse and Cochrane qualified for the event at the Eastern Championships held back in March. As a result of the collective efforts of the American K2 (ages 13-14) racers, the U.S. won the overall title for their age group.
“The Whistler Cup was an amazing experience,” said Morse, “I was really excited to represent CVA and my country at this international race. I would like to thank all those who supported me, such as the Sugarloaf Ski Club and my awesome coach Chip Cochrane.”
