Headed east on Route 202, snowing, 5 a.m., four cars coming at me, one appeared to have high beams on — unknown to me a cruiser. I was blinded so I flashed my high beams for less than seven seconds at less than 45 mph. I was stopped by ASO (Androscoggin Sheriff’s Office) for “failure to dim my lights.” Judge found me guilty, $137 fine. I did nothing under Title 29A wrong. I guess the courts are trying to make up the budget loss on honest people through fines.

My gripe is people that do not display their number on their houses. I drive for a transportation service and it is really hard to find people if you can’t see a house number. Of course then if I have to drive real slow and some jerk really ticks me off by blowing his horn at me.

I may not like the guy, but it’s shameful that a few people placed highly in Auburn are attempting to keep the city manager from writing his column in the Twin City Times. Knowledge is power, and by silencing him I see the kind of bureaucratic nonsense the city is embracing. Perhaps rather than stopping someone from voicing an opinion, they could write something themselves so the people can see where they’re coming from.

Pay-per-bag trash collections?! Honestly if I wanted to live in a small town with no services, I’d not live here! You’ll find once implementing such a silly notion people will relocate and those who can’t will find themselves a private trash dumpster service. People are already flocking out of Auburn, and the council seems to make it worse!

What good is recycling when it’s only two weeks out of the month! Look at Tuesday pickups in March: first and third week still leaves us three weeks of recyclables to pile up! I know people who fill the small box given out, then rubbish the rest. Pick up more often or give out more boxes. Some of us simply don’t have the space for three weeks of clutter!
