DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am aware of a farmers’ market that meets in the Lewiston-Auburn area in the spring and summertime. Can Sun Spots tell me if I would be allowed to bring an assortment of potted perennials to the market and offer to sell at a reasonable price?

I have many daylilies and spring daffodils and tulips for sale. When does the farmers market start its season? Would I be allowed to display these items for sale? — John Picard, 795-0997, johnpicard@yahoo.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots turned to Tina Guenette, market manager for the St. Mary’s location, who manages the Market Cafe at the winter markets and a member of the Great Falls Farmers & Artisans Market Association. She said that Lewiston has three established farmers’ markets and a new one starting this summer:

* Sundays (June 19th to October) at the Bates Mill 5 parking lot from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (this is the newest summer market)

* Tuesdays (June 21st to October) at Kennedy Park from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

* Wednesdays (June 22nd to October) at St. Mary’s in the parking lot on the corner of Lafayette Street and Campus Avenue from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

* Thursdays (once a month on the second Thursday from November to May) at the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, 208 Bates St. from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Sherie Blumenthal, food access coordinator at Lots to Gardens, St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, would be the contact for those with specific vendor participation information. She is available at 513-3848 or sblumenthal@stmarysmaine.com.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties is looking for people who would be interested in becoming members of the Executive Committee/Board of Directors.

The ASCEA is made up of volunteers who reside or work in either Androscoggin or Sagadahoc counties. The board advises the programming staff and acts as a liaison between the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and local county officials. These programs address many issues which affect us and our neighbors, and include work with senior citizens; teen-oriented leadership development, Maine Harvest for Hunger (which provides fresh fruit and vegetables to families in need), 4-H, Eat Well nutrition education, and farm business management, to name a few.

The board meets once a month on Monday evenings at the UM Cooperative Extension Office in Lisbon Falls. Anyone interested in becoming a member of this board, or in obtaining additional information regarding the opportunity to join, should contact the office at 24 Main St., Lisbon Falls, ME 04252-1505, 353-5550, or toll free in Maine at 1-800-287-1458, or email office manager Dana Rickman at dana.rickman@maine.edu. — Dennis Connelly Sr., dennis.connelly@roadrunner.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to person in Lisbon looking for crocheting lessons (April 5), I teach it at Lewiston Adult Education. I am also willing to give private lessons.

Also, I found a brown leather CD case on the side of the road on Malo Street. It has the name of Dominic Greenleaf on it. If this is yours, I would like to get it back to you. — K. Brown, Lewiston, 783-7584, octone2005@gmail.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On March 19 I wrote to you asking if you knew of anyone who could knit me sweaters using a bulky machine. It has been pointed out to me that the demo sweater I provided was done by hand with circle knitting needles.

My knitter informs me that she is unable to do this for me as she has problems with her hands. Please, dear Sun Spots, help me find a person near Auburn who can create the sweaters that I so desire. Thank you. — Peter Blake, Auburn, 782-1634, burkelyn@roadrunner.com
