NEWRY — Selectmen will soon seek estimates to replace the roof and chimney on the historic one-room Sunday River Schoolhouse on Sunday River Road, Administrator Loretta Powers said on Wednesday morning.
That was the consensus at Tuesday’s board meeting.
Built in 1895, the schoolhouse has been listed since 1978 on the National Historic Register.
In other business, a meeting with Maine Department of Transportation engineer Eric Calderwood on this year’s capital improvement project to replace the Paine Bridge on Branch Road was rescheduled to 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 2.
Powers said Calderwood couldn’t attend Tuesday’s meeting.
The engineer was expected to explain particulars about the bridge so selectmen could then seek bids for its replacement, she said.
The work will be the town’s third and last bridge to be replaced on the road.
