Dr. and Mrs. G. M. Twitchell of Auburn went to Inglenook, their summer house at Monmouth Tuesday to remain until November. There, the doctor will continue his experimental work in corn breeding and also in developing a disease resistant potato of superior quality. The results of his work will be freely given to the growers, and any boy wishing to grow yellow corn can get seed free.
50 years ago, 1961
The Auburn Health Department, at clinics held in March, gave 555 inoculations with Salk anti-polio vaccine, 180 immunizations against diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus, and 171 vaccinations against smallpox, according to the monthly report of Mrs. Shirley D. Schneider, health officer.
Two clinics were held at the city building and one was at the Lewiston-Auburn Children’s Home.

The envelope please! Will the winner of the 1986 Worst Road contest please get ready to take a bow.
And the winners are: Lewiston’s Hogan Road and Auburn’s Bradman Street.
Voting was light, barely enough to line a Hogan Road pothole, but a panel of experts verified that the ruts and frost heaves that exist on these two streets merit the infamous honor of being the Twin Cities’ worst roads.
