WILTON – A memorial service in remembrance of Elizabeth (Betty) Aphia Cole Karkos was held Wednesday afternoon at the First Congregational Church of Wilton (UCC), with interim minister Rev. Karen A. Janus officiating. Mary M. Ryan was organist and the musical selection “In The Garden” was sung as a duet by Carol Anderson and Louise Lake. Her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Karkos, recited a poem written by Betty and published in The Eagle, Wilton Academy, 1937, titled “Not Finished Yet – Just Beginning.”

Congregational hymns included “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” “Walk With Me” and “Amazing Grace.” Scripture readings included 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 and John 3:1-6. The Affirmation of Faith was Romans 8. Words of personal remembrance were offered by Judy Upham, Peggy Hodgkins and Carol Anderson. Winter inurnment is at the remembrance center. Committal services at Lakeview Cemetery, Wilton, will be held later in the summer. Arrangements are in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Center, Wilton.
