LEWISTON — James Albert Burdick, 93, of Poland, died peacefully in Lewiston on Friday, April 15, after a short illness. He was a lifelong resident of Maine and was born on Feb. 26, 1918.

He graduated in 1936 from Edward Little High School and attended Northeastern Business College. Jim was a World War II veteran serving in Italy. After the war, he owned and operated J.A. Burdick, a local painting contracting company, which later became Yarmouth Paint Company.

He and Janice retired to the family farm in Poland in 1978. They enjoyed many happy times at the family cottage on Upper Range Pond with family and friends. They shared many rounds of golf with friends and family at Poland Springs Golf Course. Jim spent his later life engaged in tinkering and maintaining his beloved property.

He is survived by two sons, Jon D. Burdick and his wife, Celeste, of Bradenton, Fla., and Joey M. Burdick of Cumberland; two grandchildren, Laura and her husband, Richard Powers, of San Diego, Calif., and Maria Burdick of Boulder, Colo.; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Janice B. Burdick; and his parents, Albert and Edith Burdick.

He was a regular at Cole Farms restaurant in Gray. He was the last survivor of a group of friends who met regularly over the years, sharing many stories and laughs with each other. The Burdick family will always be grateful for the special attention Jim received from the waitresses at Cole Farms.
