PARIS — Selectmen will look at the town’s options for the former fire station on Pine Street at Monday’s meeting.

According to a report from Town Manager Phil Tarr, the building is deteriorating rapidly after years without use or maintenance. The Paris Fire Department moved to its new station on Western Avenue in June 2003.

Last year the board polled Paris residents on what the town should do with the Pine Street station. The options were to refurbish the building and keep it for the town’s use, to demolish it and use the property as a snow-dumping area or to sell the building but keep most of the land for snow dumping.

According to Tarr, votes were divided almost evenly between refurbishing and demolishing the building. Selling it was less popular.

Tarr’s report says refurbishing the building in its current condition would cost the town $80,000 to $120,000. Demolishing the building, finish grading the site and disposing of the rubble could cost more than $100,000. He said if the town divides the lot and sells the building, it would be advertised for sale for $50,000.

Selectmen will also discuss moving the election and town meeting a week later to June 14 and June 18, respectively.

The board is also set to discuss certification on the official text of proposed ordinances on medical marijuana, curfew, signs and site plan review.

Selectmen meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Paris Town Office.
