AUBURN — Police record-keeping functions will be shut down for two days beginning Tuesday as the department completes its move to Auburn Hall.

Deputy Police Chief Jason Moen said people needing accident reports or copies of records will have to wait until Thursday, when the records department reopens.

Moen said the rest of the department will complete its move on Wednesday.

“We close the lobby on Minot Avenue at 4 p.m. Wednesday and reopen it in Auburn Hall at 4:01 p.m.,” Moen said.

The bottom floor of Auburn Hall, facing the Mechanics Row parking garage, will become the department’s new lobby. Moen said an intercom telephone is being installed that will let people contact dispatch from the lobby.

Councilors approved the move in January. The department’s administrators, detectives and support services began relocating to the third floor of Auburn Hall,  space once occupied by the Auburn School Department and the city’s Community Development Department, in February. That move is complete.

Patrol officers, records and support staff are moving to Auburn Hall’s basement, taking over space most recently occupied by the city’s computer department. The basement gymnasium will come as well, as will proper locker rooms for all the officers.

The city’s off-duty police cruisers will be parked in the Mechanics Row Parking garage, taking over spaces on the first floor near the entrance. On-duty cruisers will be parked on the plaza between Auburn Hall and the garage while officers are in the building.
