DEAR SUN SPOTS: The site which can be searched for a list of Maine legislative bills has been changed: http://tinyurl.com/3rdtmyb.

You can also sign up to have the Advanced Notice of Public Hearings sent to your computer. There are many new bills that may make major changes in Maine law.

This site also has links to other legislative sites such as tips for tracking bills, etc. There are bills to allow Sunday hunting, being able to shoot from a vehicle for self-protection, exempting schools from boiler checking, permitting concealed weapons carriers to bring a weapon into the State House, changes in the bottle law, etc. — Marilyn Burgess, stocker7@fairpoint.net

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Our SEARCH program (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew, Courage, & Hope) is a program of Catholic Charities. We are writing to let isolated seniors know about our program and that we are available to help them by providing volunteer and transportation support. If you are in need of our services, please contact our office to learn more about our program and become a client with us!

We are also seeking yarn again for our knitters. We are in need of four-ply yarn of light colors, in good condition, to support our volunteers who are busy knitting hats, mittens, baby items and afghans, which in turn are given to the needy of all ages in Androscoggin County. The yarn is donated to SEARCH and given out to our knitters as needed.

Our program has wonderful volunteers that are matched to our elderly or disabled clients. They help the clients by making reassurance calls, providing companionship and friendly visits, or by assisting them with errands. We would love more volunteers from the community, to help us by working with our elderly clients who are waiting for someone to visit them and help them with their errands. If you are interested in volunteering with the elderly, I would love to talk to you about joining our program and volunteering with us!

For more information about becoming a client or volunteer with us, or to donate yarn please call our office at 784-0157. Thank you for your yarn donations and we hope that you will join our program by becoming a client or a volunteer with us! With gratitude. — Wendy Russell, program director, Auburn, wrussell@ccmaine.org
