WILTON — Bees and trees highlight an informational and hands-on talk about beginner bee keeping and managing a wood lot to produce trees that bees prefer.

The event is planned from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 30, at Russell Black’s “bee yard” where he will provide a hands-on class about starting to keep bees and the equipment needed.

Black is an avid beekeeper and a woodlot owner. He’s also a state representative.

Patty Cormier, a forester with the Maine Forest Service, will talk about ideas on managing your woodlot with bees in mind.

A discussion on the pollination ranges for trees and plants that bees feed on will be held.

This event is free, open to all and is sponsored by the Upper Kennebec Valley chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine and the Maine Forest Service. No pre-registration is necessary.

Black’s yard is off Route 2 and 4 in Wilton. Participants can turn at Rocky Hill Landscaping onto the Cemetery Road. The bee yard and meeting spot is on the left up the road a few hundred yards in a small field. For more information, contact Patty Cormier at (207) 592-2238 or [email protected]
