English tea

HEBRON — The Greenwood Mountain Inn will present an English “high tea” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, with proceeds to benefit the Hebron Historical Society’s building fund. The event will feature music and a tour of the historic inn. Donation: $10. RSVP requested to 966-2177.

Barn vote

WATERFORD —The next meeting of Waterford World’s Fair will be held at the Waterford Town Office at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 1 (note change from usual date). All members are encouraged to attend to see the blueprints for the new 28 x 82 foot steer and oxen barn and to ask any questions about the building; then members will need to vote on it.

The Waterford World’s Fair is looking for a small merry-go-round or ferris wheel to rent for the fair. If anyone knows of where either of these might be available, call President Dana Hemingway at 595-2430 or Vice President Bill Winslow at 595-1601.

Country music

MECHANIC FALLS — Friends of the Down East Country Music Association will hold a country music get-together from 2:30 to 5 p.m on Sunday, May 1, at the Silver Spur Club, Route 121. The event is a fund-raiser for fellow musician and member George DeWitt, who has lung cancer and will be going in for surgery shortly. He will have chemo and radiation after surgery. A love offering will be taken.

Worship service

PARIS — Silver Moore-Leamon will lead the worship service Sunday, May 1, the first Sunday after Easter, at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris. Her sermon topic will be “Reframing Our Roles.” The music will be lead by Forest Perkins, church organist and the choir. Renee Wales will direct the Sunday School. The Coffee Hour will follow in Good Cheer Hall. All are welcome.

Historical society

WEST PARIS — The West Paris Historical Society will hold the first meeting of the year on Monday, May 2, with a potluck supper at 6 p.m. and meeting at 7 p.m.

Discussion will include the baked bean supper on June 10.

Socrates Cafe

WATERFORD — A Socrates Cafe gathering will be held at the Waterford Library from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 2. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.

The topic for the May meeting is “What Is a Gift?” Ursula Duve will be the moderator.

Knitters’ trip

PARIS — Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, at the First Congregational Church, South Paris, for a field trip to Halcyon Yarn Shop in Bath. Anyone who is willing to drive their in a carpool for the trip, contact Gloria Sawyer at 743-7677 by Friday, April 30.

Pantry hours

OTISFIELD — The food pantry at Spurrs Corner Church on Route 121 will be open on Tuesdays, May 3 and 17, and Monday, May 9. The pantry is open on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, and on the 2nd Monday evening of each month from 5 to 7 p.m.

Children’s room

NORWAY — A reading of Laura Joffe Numeroff’s books, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” and “If You Give a Moose a Muffin,” will take place at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, at the Norway Memorial Library children’s room.

This program is for children in 1st through 3rd grade. Children will participate in some moose and mouse games, crafts and a recipe swap. Children should bring a favorite cookie recipe to share with the other participants. Following the stories, crafts and games, the children will each get their own mouse-shaped cookie to decorate and eat.

Kindergarten
