JAY — There is still some space available for a one-day introduction class that is being offered on computer aided drafting using the Chief Architect program on Saturday at Jay High School.

It is an introductory session to find out what CAD is and how it can be used in different professions, Betty Gensel, a liaison for the Franklin County Community College Network, said Tuesday.

“We’d like to get more people interested. It is also something employers may be interested for their staff,” she said. “The focus of all of this is to promote economic development and work force training. We’re trying to get people trained for jobs.”

People will learn how to create blue prints for floor plans using the program and to see the overall design before construction begins.

“The ultimate goal is to provide a three-credit college course on CAD in Jay next fall,” Gensel said. “We want people to attend so we can learn their interests. It will help us decide on the focus of the next class.”

Dan Lemieux, a technology education teacher at Jay High School, will instruct the one-day class from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 30, at the school. The cost is $35. To register or if you need more information contact Lynn Smith 897-4336, ext. 405 [email protected].

The class is for beginning students and will provide basic information, skills and concepts related to architectural drafting.

All aspects of designing, framing plans and material estimation will be covered for a single-story ranch-style house, a flyer on the program states.

Each person will complete a set of house plans using Chief Architect.

Information on the software can be reviewed at http://www.chiefarchitect.com.

The course is being offered in partnership between the Franklin County Community College Network, Central Maine Community College and the Jay Schools.
