Grange meeting

DANVILLE — Danville Junction Grange will meet on at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at the hall. The program, “Getting to Know You”, will be presented by the lecturer. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are welcome.

Historical gala

WINTHROP — The Winthrop Maine Historical Society will hold a gala from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, at the town hall.

The program will include the following: Exhibits of historical documents and artifacts; music by John Clarke, in military dress; “Medicine in the Life of a Civil War Soldier;” “Winthrop and the Great Rebellion;” and various exhibitors.

MECHANIC FALLS — Friends of the Down East Country Music Association will hold a country music get-together from 2:30 to 5 p.m on Sunday, May 1, at the Silver Spur Club, Route 121. The event is a fundraiser for fellow musician and member George DeWitt, who has lung cancer and will be having surgery, chemo and radiation. A love offering will be taken.

Spring Concert

MANCHESTER — CODA Chorus will hold their annual Spring Concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, at Hope Baptist Church on Route 202. Included in the program are songs of praise, spirituals, a selection of English and Irish folk songs, and familiar pieces by American composers. We will be joined by cellist Eliza Meyer and flutist Judy Mank. A free-will offering will be taken.

Summer camp

WALES — Camp 44, located in RSU 4, Sabattus, Litchfield and Wales, will be accepting registrations for summer camp. The camp, run under the school umbrella, is open to kindergarten to grade eight students.

Residents and nonresidents are welcome to attend. Site of the all-day camp has yet to be determined. Doors are open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Jim Palmer is the director.

Full summer tuition paid prior to May 1 is $501 per child, for eight weeks of camp. After May 1 the full summer tuition is $600. Weekly tuition is $100 and daily tuition is $20. The prices do not include the cost of Wednesday field trips.

‘High Tea’

HEBRON — The Greenwood Mountain Inn will present an English “High Tea” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, with proceeds to benefit the Hebron Historical Society’s building fund. The event will feature music and a tour of the historic inn. Donation: $10. RSVP requested to 966-2177.

Historical society

YARMOUTH — North Yarmouth Historical Society will present “NOT Just Plain Water: Poland Spring,” a presentation by David L. Richards, at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 2, at the Old Town House, Route 9, North Yarmouth.

During the late 1800s the Ricker family turned their rustic frontier farm into the world-renowned summer community of Poland Spring. They linked its fortunes to the railroad and tourism, capitalizing on the vacation trade and the emergence of the “springs” phenomenon during the Gilded Age. David Richards, author of “Poland Spring: A Tale of the Gilded Age, 1860-1900,” will tell us the whole story. There will be bottled water and goodies available.

Holocaust speaker

LEWISTON — Holocaust Days of Remembrance will take place at noon on Tuesday, May 3, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St. Edith Pagelson, Falmouth resident and Holocaust survivor, will speak about her life in Germany in the 1930s and 40s.
