LEWISTON — Lewiston Public Library has announced its May program schedule. The Library will be closed on Saturday, May 28, and Monday, May 30, for Memorial Day.

Art Van: Art Van is a mobile art program that brings the arts to children. Jamie Silvestri, Program Manager for the ArtVan, will present art projects at the Lewiston Public Library every Monday at 4 p.m. through the end of November. Jamie, an artist with 17 years experience, provides hands on creative opportunities for self-expression, personal growth and healing. She uses art to help children explore and enrich their lives and make sense of the world around them. No preregistration is necessary for this event.

French Language Storytime/ heure des contes français: Thursday, May 26, 6 p.m. Special guest Vanessa Hermann will offer a French language storytime. We hope this will be a monthly event for native speakers and to help families who are trying to teach their children French. Hermann will use a variety of French songs, fingerplays and books. She may explore themes such as wolves, alphabet, Africa, Quebec and food. This program is free and no preregistration is required. For more information call the Lewiston Public Library at 513-3133.

Read to a Dog: Tuesdays, 4:30 p.m. Research has shown that when children read aloud to dogs their skills & confidence increase. Maggie, a lovable golden retriever, is an uncritical listener as the children explain the story and work through their own vocabulary and comprehension. To reserve a spot to read to Maggie, call or email the Children’s Department.

Cooking Club: Thursdays, 4 p.m. Lots to Gardens presents the Cooking Club for kids ages 7-14. The club will make a different food each week and then enjoy it together. The program also includes interactive learning games, as well as some nutrition facts. Children may sign up by calling or emailing the Children’s department; attendance will be limited to 8 and this is a very popular program.

Storytimes: Each storytime will last about a half-hour and is aimed at a specific age group. Siblings of different ages are always welcome too. No preregistration is necessary. All-ages storytime: Mondays, 6 p.m.; Preschool storytime, Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m.; Babytime, Fridays, 10:30 a.m.
